Merchant's Cove: Version 0.6 Released!


Huge changes for this new version. I don't plan on releasing anything new after this update, but I had such an amazing time learning Godot and making my first game with it.

v0.6 Changelog

Bugs Fixed:

  • Fixed cannonball effects persisting after enemy ships are destroyed.
  • Added feedback when purchasing potions, including a shrink effect on the UI.
  • Corrected potion recipes to work both ways (e.g., red-green is the same as green-red).
  • Added a visual indicator when receiving healing potions, now displaying a +hp on the screen.
  • Changed the visual element for healing potions to a Health Chest.
  • Fixed effects transferring between ships unintentionally.
  • Resolved issue where cannonball damage was not passing through properly.
  • Corrected the Kraken spawning upside down.

New Features:

  • Updated cannon sound effects for different styles.
  • Added visual effects (VFX) to status effects.
  • Implemented a scripted Kraken fight, including Kraken spawn noise.
  • Added sound effects (SFX) for health chest spawning.
  • Reduced passive damage from the Kraken once the scripted fight begins.
  • Introduced Merchant's Cove, where players can upgrade their ships:
    • Created the location for Merchant's Cove.
    • New assets for in-game shops.
    • Added area triggers to interact with the shops.
  • Shortened cannonball distances for more balanced gameplay.
  • Added a money display in the shop interface.
  • Increased money drops with a level progression system.
  • Added overlay tooltips for items and abilities in the shop.
  • Players can now click on the shop button to open the shop interface directly.
  • Coins now have velocity changes applied when sucked toward the player.
  • Improved ship acceleration for smoother movement.
  • Replaced potions with Health Chests for healing; potions were confusing.
  • Introduced a level-up and experience system to reward progress.
  • Expanded the map to allow for more exploration.
  • Created new tutorial tips to help players understand mechanics.
  • Added new spawn points for shadow enemies.
